- Out with the old.
Remove the carpeting, banisters, and spindles. Make sure you are left with bare stairs. No railings, just the treads and the risers.
- In with the new.
Measure each tread carefully and accurately and cut your hardwood into the measurements. After measuring, cut the hardwood, then install them. Make sure that each hardwood is securely installed. If possible, also change the wall moldings of your staircase.
- Beautify your new stairs.
After installing hardwood into each step, it’s time to work on making your stairs an eye candy. Stain and or paint the risers and the hardwood into your desired color. Your risers can be the same color as your hardwood but painting your risers white can make a beautiful work of art, giving more emphasis to the hardwood. Re-install the railings and make sure your rails and newels match with the hardwood for a perfect look.
- Enjoy your new stairs.
